Decorating patriotic cookies was a perfect way to get our creative and culinary juices flowing. And they were tasty treats, too!

Who says we can’t have our own Mardi Gras parade? Shoreview Senior Living staff put on a fun-filled indoor parade complete with music, beads, silly costumes, and goodies. Everyone had a blast and we’re excited to do this new tradition again next year!

Spreading Holiday Spirit

January 22nd, 2020

Singing, treats, and laughter – just a few of the ways we were spreading holiday spirit around the halls of Shoreview Senior Living!

The holidays are better with treats, and we had a wonderful time decorating cookies together. There was plenty of laughter and cookie sampling!

We had so much fun with Trudi and Frank at our December Sing-Along! Some of our own residents even joined in to lead “The 12 Days of Christmas,” which was especially entertaining!

Kent Appeldoorn had us all laughing and singing at a recent happy hour.

Shoreview Senior Living residents rang in the New Year with a festive countdown party, complete with ice cream sundaes, music, and plenty of cheering!??

Field Trip: Cosetta’s Italian Market

March 15th, 2018

Residents of Shoreview Senior Living headed down to Cosetta’s Italian Market in St Paul. A wonderful place to go for a bit to eat. Many recall when it used to be just one room back in the early 1900s. Now over 100 years old, it is three stories tall, and the food was terrific! After dining, residents checked out the Italian market and bakery. It was hard not to leave without getting a few treats to take along for later. The sun was quite bright, which made it nice, but not for pictures. From pizza and lasagna to salads and hoagies, everyone had their fill! Thank you, Cosetta’s Italian Market, for a wonderful afternoon!

Cookies and Church

December 15th, 2017

We started out the morning by singing some hymnns before Mass. Later in the afternoon, we decorated cookies and everyone brought a few home for themselves. Maria wasn’t too sure what to do after she dropped a cookie in the green icing. I bet it was still delicious. Residents also learned to make scarves from recycled yarn. They made one special for Leo, the dog, too.

Happy Halloween!

November 2nd, 2017

Shoreview Senior Living Halloween!

With the crisp cool air and a hauntingly decorated atmosphere, Halloween is a perfect time to throw a party. A few friends, some good treats, and the perfect eerie atmosphere can make any party a ghoulish success. So that’s what we did for the Shoreview Senior Living Halloween party.

Management got together and decided to play a game of human dominoes. It was a challenge for some!

Later this morning we started the day with KinderCare coming over for trick-or-treating. The costumes were precious! It’s amusing to see the kids all dressed up. They played basketball and balloon ball with the residents and performed a little skit for us. Kristy had them singing the “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “If you’re a Ghost and You Know It, Just Say BOO”. Residents sang “I’ve been working on the railroad” for little ones. It was definitely a GREAT time.

In the afternoon, residents enjoyed some ghoulish treats made by chef Holly: spider dogs, gravestone brownies, pumpkin cookies and ghost mousse! We played Bingo, Head Tails, and awarded prizes for best costume! Elon won 1st prize for Paul Bunyan, Carol won second for the spider witch, and Pat won 3rd for the feather boa diva. We ended the party with the Monster Mash dance! Everyone had a spooktacular time.

October Trip to Silverwood Nature Center

October 30th, 2017

Monday we took a trip to Silverwood Nature Center, a beautiful place to experience apple pressing. Residents learned how to make apple cider and made some cute clay ornaments and pines for fall. A shout out to Sam and Galby for their time and dedication to making this a terrific afternoon for us all. Residents learned that there are over 2,500 varieties of apples in the US and over 7,000 in the world. The U of M is creating an encyclopedia set which will consist of all apple varieties ever created. I was surprised that there was only one apple that is native to the US , which is the crab apple. We also learned that 1 apple had just as much fiber as 2 servings of Metamucil. We voted on eating the apple!!! At the end of the class we enjoyed our homemade pressed apple cider…YUM!!

First Annual Craft and Bake Sale!

September 12th, 2017

Saturday we had our first annual Craft and Bake Sale! We were so grateful for all the crafters who joined us. Great to see so much creativity and unique items. Valda had a great display of all her knitting items and we are planning on donating the rest to the kids at Harriet Tubman. Residents all pitched in to make some fun treats and jumped right in to help with the sale. Ok some, like Carol played a bit, but that was ok. Later that afternoon, Beth and Joy joined us and played some music out on the lawn. It ended up being a terrific day. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped!!
