Music, Smiles, and Laughter

The past few weeks have been full of music, smiles, and laughter! What a wonderful start to the summer.

Ken Wanovich

Ken Wanovich joined us for happy hour and played some sing-a-longs and classic tunes that we all love. Residents enjoyed delicious hummus, pita chips, and cocktails while listening to Ken’s wonderful music.

From Volleyball to Yoga

From volleyball to sing-a-longs to a picnic lunch in building B, we sure have had a fun week. It may have been muggy outside, but there was fun to be had inside! Nancy taught us a new yoga move called “lion pose.” We love this one! Not only does it help our facial muscles and voices, but we also look a bit goofy, too!

May Birthdays

We celebrated our May birthdays and a 72nd wedding anniversary during happy hour. With the cake, ice cream, friends, and music from Monroe Wright – we sure had a great time.

Tony’s Rock-n-roll

Tony came in for an afternoon of rock-n-roll. It was great to see him and his nephew, Mason, who had just graduated preschool. He played his saxophone while Tony sang. He just looks up to his “gunkle” so much! Mason is so lucky to have such a special uncle in his life.

Red Nose Day at the Masonic Heritage Center

This day was filled with fun moments. First, it was Red Nose Day to support children in poverty. I love this day because it creates so many smiles! A group of us took our noses and went to the Masonic Heritage Center to see “From Ava to Eternity: the Life and Music of Frank Sinatra.” As we wore our noses to lunch and the theater, we noticed we inspired many smiles and laughs. Even the director of the theater put a nose on. We took a picture with the cast after the show too. It was a wonderful performance, and we look forward to going back in the near future. Back at Shoreview, Lexi had a great time enjoying popsicles out on the patio with residents.

Silverwood Nature Center

Silverwood Nature Center visited us again to talk about baby animals. It was interesting to learn some of the fun facts! We knew rabbits multiply fast, but they are also known to have a litter each month. Wow! Residents then created a watercolor and ink press picture of baby animals in a nature scene. In the end, we were able to pick up the small bird baths that we made last month out of clay. They turned out so nice!

Leo’s Birthday Party

Leo turned three, and residents helped celebrate his special day. He played in the pool, showed them how he can jump through a hoop, and played some frisbee with the residents. Leo brought us some dog treats for everyone to share. What a beautiful day to celebrate this special pooch!

Thematic Thursday

Thematic Thursday was filled with a variety of fun activities. We spent the day planting flowers on our patios. They look beautiful; it must have been our singing! In the afternoon, Amy came in for another improv hour with the residents. From funny noises to funny faces, it was a great time. Later in the day, The Hacklewrappers joined us for an evening of Bluegrass music. They were terrific and got the toes tapping.
