Save The Date: 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s

September 20th, 2019

On September 28, Shoreview Senior Living and the Southview Senior Communities team will be joining the Alzheimer’s Association Minnesota-North Dakota for the 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Target Field. There are 5.8 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s today, and that number is projected to rise to nearly 14 million by 2050. We’d love your help as we work to raise awareness, reduce risk, and eliminate Alzheimer’s through research and care. Learn more about donating and/or registering to walk. Together, we can fight to end Alzheimer’s!

Here are some photos from last year’s walk.

Alzheimer’s Association Fundraisers & More

September 6th, 2019

We’re coming into the end of summer, but the fun continues here at Shoreview! This month, we’ve held Alzheimer’s Association fundraisers, learned about nature, and much more. Check it out!

To raise money for the Alzheimer’s Association, our residents and staff donated items for a “happy hour auction.” A fun afternoon fundraising for a great cause!

More fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association! On August 21, everyone enjoyed a delicious meal, reminisced, and shared memories during our old-time, ’50s-themed BBQ fundraiser.

We love the monthly visits and lessons with our friends from Silverwood Nature Center! We get to learn so much about nature, and then apply it to the art we create that day.

A change of plans due to rainy weather can be a bummer. But when that change involves ice cream and music, life is good! 🎤🍦🎼

Trudi brings us sunshine each month with her love of music. For August, she brought us an afternoon at the state fair!

We are thankful for this couple, Tony and Irmi. They spend a LOT of time in the back garden, and we all reap the rewards!

Fun Events and Easter Celebrations at Shoreview

April 30th, 2019

We love our Friday happy hours! Chefs John and Holly spoil us with their tasty hors d’oeuvres!

Trudi brings sunshine on cloudy days with her songs, props, and smile!

The presentation about St. Paul Gangsters was fascinating! We learned so much during the program, and our own residents had LOTS to share about their own neighborhoods back in the day.

Filling the eggs for the egg hunt was full of many wonderful memories! We talked about Easter celebrations that we remembered with our friends and family.

Celebrating Easter in a very special way! We were thankful to have an Easter service right here at our Shoreview Senior Living Community. We sang hymns, heard the message, and shared in the liturgy.

Our Kindercare visitors were a breath of fresh air as they laughed with us, sang for us, and shared much excitement in their hunt for Easter eggs.  We love spending time with our young friends!

We love our visits to the James J. Hill House. We learn so much and our docents are a lot of fun!

The Roots and Shoots Club from Shoreview Montessori School taught us ways that we can help our environment. Recycling is fun and very helpful for our planet Earth!

Preparing for St. Patrick’s Day was so much fun! We made beautiful shamrocks to decorate our doors. ☘️☘️☘️

Listening to music with your buddy. Does life get any better?!

Easter Fun!

April 6th, 2018

These past few weeks have been a blast with Easter activities and some music!

Dulcimer

Lori Ronchak visited and played the Hammered Dulcimer during happy hour. It was such a unique and beautiful instrument that her brother made. She was very talented. We also did some sing-a-longs and music trivia on the piano.

Easter Bunny

A group of kids visited residents and made crafts, played games, and got “tattoos.” The Easter bunny hopped on over to celebrate with all the kids! They also had some special treats to take home with them. Thank you to all the residents and volunteers who helped make this a wonderful and successful morning.

Coloring Eggs

Residents went back in time as they remembered decorating their Easter eggs as kids. Four dozen beautiful eggs were completed. Some were painted, some were dipped, and others used tissue paper. We are now ready for deviled eggs! A few residents kept crafting and created a Mod Podge egg or a cross, too!

St. Odilia Kids Visit

Students from St. Odilia School visited Shoreview Senior Living again. They performed skits, sang songs, and made crafts! It was so special seeing the two generations engage with one another. Not only did residents get attention, but Leo loved it as well!! Thank you, Saint Odilia 4th-graders, for spending some quality time with us here at Shoreview!

Yoga & Polka

A little yoga with Nancy and a little polka with Dan made for a wonderful day! The continuous Minnesota snow won’t stop our fun here at Shoreview Senior Living.

Improv Workshop

March 12th, 2018

Amy Stedman from Just Kidding Improv showed the residents how to “think on their feet.” She made an impact on the residents with acting, humor, and movement. It was fascinating to see residents who are typically quiet or with memory impairment respond and open up! There were no scripts and no right way of doing something. Only learning to be yourself, while having fun with others. We look forward to working with Amy next month.
