First Annual Craft and Bake Sale!

September 12th, 2017

Saturday we had our first annual Craft and Bake Sale! We were so grateful for all the crafters who joined us. Great to see so much creativity and unique items. Valda had a great display of all her knitting items and we are planning on donating the rest to the kids at Harriet Tubman. Residents all pitched in to make some fun treats and jumped right in to help with the sale. Ok some, like Carol played a bit, but that was ok. Later that afternoon, Beth and Joy joined us and played some music out on the lawn. It ended up being a terrific day. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped!!

Fishing for Fun

August 10th, 2017

Monday we headed out to White Bear Lake to do some fishing. Couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day!! Residents were pulling them in one after another. Harriet, who grew up on White Bear Lake, caught the most and the smallest. Bruce caught the first and Bob caught the biggest, a nice yellow belly. We thought Laurie made a friend as she didn’t want to let hers go, she thought they were cute. After a great afternoon on the lake we had a picnic right on shore. Donny found some milkweed and learned from a landscaper that you can eat the pods! Hmmm, not to sure about this. But we do need to get some to plant in our back yard. Thank you “Fishing for Fun” for a wonderful afternoon!!

Summer Blast Kids Visit

August 7th, 2017

Wednesday we welcomed Summer Blast from Incarnation Lutheran Church to Shoreview Senior Living. They boys helped the residents make some sunflowers which will be hung up in Garden Cove. A few of the boys challenged Florence, our Champion Scrabble player, to a game. Florence came out in the lead, but they sure did have fun. A few others learned the game Blokus while Elon found a drawing buddy. So precious to see these two drawing together! Before they left they cleaned up our walkways and patios. Amazing group of boys!!! Look forward to having them return.

Fishing on Lake Johanna

June 22nd, 2017

Monday morning eight residents took off to do a little fishing on Lake Johanna. It was a perfect morning!! Not everyone caught a fish, but we defiantly had fun. Jim caught the biggest and the smallest and Richard caught the most. I think Bernice is our new “fish whisperer” as she continued to talk to the fish. Claire finally caught one at the end, while Donna and Joe just enjoyed the beautiful day on the lake.

Pontoon Trip!

June 6th, 2017

Today was a perfect day for a Pontoon trip on White Bear Lake. Residents enjoyed our Captain Sam and his wonderful crew who helped make this afternoon memorable for us all. We learned history of the lake and pointed out many interesting facts such as the different kinds of sail boats, saw many beautiful homes like Marjorie Mcneely’s who was the founder of the Conservatory, and took in some beautiful wildlife. Couldn’t of been any better!! One fact Captain Sam mentioned that we will remember for out next trip where we will be fishing……

Wind from the east, fish bite the least;
Wind from the west, the fish bite the best;
Wind from the north, few sailors set forth;
Wind from the south blows bait in their mouth.
