This Memorial Day weekend, all of us at Shoreview Senior Living remember and honor the men and women who have given their lives while serving our country.
The past few weeks have been full of activities that inspired residents to get moving!
We had a terrific Tuesday! Residents started out with volleyball in the morning. It’s becoming pretty competitive! After lunch, we all headed out for some trivia on the patio. We ended the wonderful day outside doing yoga with Nancy.
Monday afternoon, we enjoyed sitting on the patio before the rain came. Afterwards, we ventured inside for our Mother’s Day Tea Party. David Geske played some beautiful piano music for all the ladies (and a few men too), while the residents enjoyed tea with little cucumber sandwiches and petite desserts. It was a beautiful afternoon to celebrate with the moms at Shoreview Senior Living!
A room filled with beautiful decorations, a corsage for each resident, and nothing but smiles made for the start of a wonderful Prom. The beauty of each resident was captured as they enjoyed an afternoon of music with Dan and Judy from Bandanaa, dancing, and gourmet treats. A few teenagers from Mounds View High School joined us and helped create many lasting memories. They were such joyful and compassionate students as they danced and visited with the residents. This intergenerational experience is rewarding for the students and seniors. We were proud to crown Dawn and Lee Herndon as the 2018 King and Queen of Shoreview Senior Living. Thank you to everyone who helped make this day special!!!
Mrs. Jill visited residents to do some canvas painting. They each created beautiful spring paintings of flowers in a field. I love how the residents can relax and get lost in their painting.
Residents enjoyed their weekly happy hour with Amy and Adams. They are a wonderful and talented music duo. The music got the residents singing, dancing, and tapping their toes. “Ralph” (my puppet) even came out to get Telly to smile a little bit. Then Leo caught a dance with mom. Amy and Adams are a fun couple. We look forward to seeing them again!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers working and living at Shoreview Senior Living.
Residents helped children and learned about cultures from around the world.
May Day brings out happy feelings, and residents shared it by giving back. Shoreview Senior Living residents went over to Incarnation Lutheran Church and packed meals for Feed My Starving Children. It was a rewarding afternoon. In the end, we packed 327 boxes, which will feed 194 kids a meal per day for a year. Such a great feeling to know we can help make a difference in the lives of children around the world.
We hosted a Festival of Nations during Happy Hour. We featured Sweden, Germany, Ireland, China, and Liberia. Everyone was able to try popular foods from each country and learned some fun facts. Erma and Sharon hosted Sweden. They brought many fun items that represent their country and served herring and lingonberry spread. Tony and Ermi hosted Germany and served some Tony’s famous spaetzle and kraut. Linda even brought in homemade pretzels and beer to try. Maria hosted Ireland and served up some corn beef and cabbage. We featured Liberia because it is the native country of many of our caregivers. Residents tried some Liberian fried plantain. Marilyn served up some egg rolls from China and talked about their culture, too! Books and brochures from each country were set out to look through. It was so fun to learn about the different heritages and where we should go on our next vacation!
